Essential Energy Proposes 500 MW Power Plant in Archbald, PA
Essential Energy's proposal for a power plant in Archbald aims to generate 400 MW, addressing regional energy demand. The project is part of a larger development wave, including six data centers, which could significantly impact local infrastructure and economy.

Essential Energy has proposed a nearly 500,000 square foot power generation facility on a 17-acre site in Archbald, PA, with plans for four turbine pads producing approximately 400 megawatts of electricity. This initiative aims to satisfy growing energy demands within the PJM grid, which serves 13 states.
Additionally, the project includes the development of six data centers, totaling 51 buildings in a borough of 7,500 residents. However, concerns have been raised by local officials regarding the lack of detailed assessments related to environmental impacts. While the developers state that the plant’s location is strategic due to existing gas and transmission lines, they cannot guarantee that electricity prices will decrease locally, as it will be sold on the open market.
