EU Commission Introduces Omnibus Packages to Simplify Environmental Regulations

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & RECYCLING

The European Commission is launching two Omnibus Packages to streamline regulations and enhance competitiveness while meeting sustainability goals. The Omnibus I, presented on February 26, 2025, aims to simplify ESG reporting obligations, potentially reducing the number of obligated businesses by 80%.

Omnibus VIII, introduced on December 10, 2025, encompasses six legislative proposals focusing on industrial emissions, circular economy, and environmental assessments. The Commission expects these measures to save businesses about €1 billion annually, contributing to a target of €37.5 billion in administrative cost savings by 2029. The adoption processes for both packages are in progress, with Omnibus I ahead of Omnibus VIII, which is currently under review by the European Parliament and Council.
