EU Project SUPREME Develops PFAS-Free Electrolyser for Sustainable Green Hydrogen Production

ELECTROLYZERHYDROGEN

The EU project SUPREME focuses on developing a PFAS-free electrolyser to enhance green hydrogen production sustainability. Over three years, a team led by the University of Southern Denmark and Graz University of Technology will research efficient electrolysis technology that minimizes critical raw materials, particularly iridium.

The project aims to reduce iridium use by up to 75% and recycle 90% of it. The German institute Fraunhofer ISE will produce membrane electrode units, while Element One Energy AS in Norway will develop a new rotating electrolyser. The initiative is co-funded by the European Commission under the CETPartnership.
