European Companies Face Challenges in Hypersonic Weapons Development
European firms are grappling with technological and infrastructural hurdles in hypersonic weapons development, highlighting the need for real-world testing facilities. This situation could lead to reliance on foreign capabilities, impacting strategic autonomy.

European companies engaged in hypersonic vehicle development emphasize the necessity for real-world testing following virtual simulations, yet lack the required infrastructure within Europe. The roundtable held in Madrid on May 27, attended by firms like Sener and Airbus Defense and Space, revealed that while technological expertise is present, the absence of testing facilities restricts progress and increases dependence on external countries.
Testing costs are significant, and the limited number of suitable wind tunnels globally necessitates the establishment of dedicated testing centers in Europe. This endeavor will demand substantial financial and human resources, alongside navigating bureaucratic challenges that could hinder timely advancements in hypersonic capabilities.
