Exmar and Trammo Achieve Largest Ammonia Ship-to-Ship Transfer in Oman
Exmar and Trammo have successfully completed the largest ammonia ship-to-ship transfer in Oman, moving 38,500m³ of liquid ammonia, equivalent to approximately 26,200 tonnes, at the port of Sohar. This operation surpasses previous records and highlights Exmar's expertise in ammonia logistics, a sector poised for growth as ammonia gains recognition as a potential marine fuel. The company is also expanding its fleet with new dual-fuel gas carriers, emphasizing the operational viability of ammonia logistics at scale.

Exmar and Trammo have completed their largest ammonia ship-to-ship (STS) transfer, moving a full 38,500m³ cargo at the port of Sohar, Oman. Exmar's gas carrier Kortrijk safely discharged this cargo, equating to approximately 26,200 tonnes of liquid ammonia.
This transfer surpasses previous benchmarks, including a 23,000-tonne operation by NYK and Trammo last year and an 800m³ pilot in Rotterdam in 2025. The operation illustrates Exmar's expertise in ammonia logistics, a sector expected to grow as ammonia is recognized as a potential marine fuel. Despite regulatory challenges, Exmar is expanding its fleet with new dual-fuel gas carriers, signaling the operational viability of ammonia logistics at scale.
