EXU-1 and Marine Corps Collaborate for Enhanced EOD Training
The collaboration between EXU-1 and the Marine Corps' LEON group has led to the successful development of joint explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) capabilities, utilizing excess ordnance as training aids. This initiative enhances operational readiness and fosters integration across services, demonstrating the importance of cross-department cooperation in military training.

The joint effort between the Navy's Expeditionary Exploitation Unit-1 (EXU-1) and the U.S. Marine Corps' Littoral Explosive Ordnance Neutralization (LEON) group has resulted in the successful adaptation of Marine ordnance disassembly skills for EOD operations.
This partnership enabled the collection and inerting of excess ordnance, including landmines and munitions, which were transformed into training aids at Camp Pendleton, California, within approximately two months. The collaboration also involved the Energetics Manufacturing Department of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division, which facilitated logistics and transportation of ordnance to training sites.
This integration not only optimized training resources but also provided significant cost savings, avoiding the need for new material purchases. The success of this initiative highlights the potential for further collaborative efforts to enhance military training and operational capabilities.
