ExxonMobil and Halliburton Achieve First Fully Automated Closed-Loop Geological Well Placement in Guyana

INDUSTRIAL IOT

ExxonMobil and Halliburton have achieved the first fully automated closed-loop geological well placement system during offshore drilling operations in Guyana. This project combined rig automation, automated subsurface interpretation, and real-time drilling optimization into a single workflow, improving well placement accuracy and operational efficiency.

The integrated closed-loop system utilized Halliburton's LOGIX™ orchestration, the EarthStar® ultra-deep resistivity service, and Sekal's DrillTronics®. The system successfully placed approximately 470 meters of the lateral well section while achieving a 15% faster completion of the reservoir section and a 33% reduction in tripping time. This advancement aligns with the FutureWell initiative in the Wells Alliance Guyana effort, demonstrating the effectiveness of automation and digital workflows in enhancing drilling operations.
