Fairview and Wright Townships Enact Data Center Regulations Amid Local Concerns

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Fairview and Wright Townships have implemented regulations for data centers despite no current plans for such facilities. Fairview Twp. adopted an ordinance regulating data centers, while Wright Twp. held a public hearing on proposed amendments to its existing ordinance.

Wright Twp. supervisors will vote on the amendments on January 12. The regulations restrict data centers to industrial zones and require conditional use approval from township supervisors. Fairview's ordinance specifies landscape buffers and a minimum setback of 200 feet from residential districts, while Wright's proposed ordinance mandates a 50-acre minimum tract size and a maximum building height of 45 feet. Dorrance Twp. is also reviewing a challenge from Brewster Land Company regarding its zoning ordinance exclusion of data centers, with hearings scheduled for January 27.
