Farnborough Airshow Highlights Shift to Defense Amid Global Security Risks
The Farnborough Airshow, from July 20-24, will see defense dominate discussions as European military spending rises amid ongoing conflicts. Aerospace firms face challenges in balancing civil jet production recovery with increasing demand for advanced weaponry and defense technology.

At the Farnborough Airshow, defense is projected to account for half of the 1,600 exhibitors, marking a significant shift from historical norms. The ongoing Ukraine conflict and instability in the Gulf are elevating defense priorities over commercial aircraft orders, which are expected to be limited to about 300 deals.
Startups in defense technology, particularly those focusing on drones and AI, are gaining traction, challenging established players. Major companies like Airbus and Boeing will still announce aircraft orders, but the focus will shift to production constraints and delivery timelines, which are hampered by ongoing supply chain issues. The aviation sector continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, yet challenges remain in ramping up production rates for popular models.
