Faroese Environment Agency Launches Ground Source Heat Pump in Leirvík
The Faroese Environment Agency has inaugurated a ground source heat pump system in Leirvík, aimed at replacing oil burners and utilizing surplus wind power. This installation is projected to reduce oil consumption by 70,000-75,000 liters annually while consuming approximately 350,000 kWh of electricity, supporting the Faroe Islands' decarbonisation goals and enhancing energy security and efficiency. A data-collection system will provide online performance insights.

The Faroese Environment Agency coordinated the installation of a ground source heat pump system in Leirvík, replacing oil burners and utilizing surplus wind power. The system, inaugurated on April 12, 2023, reduces oil use by 70,000-75,000 liters annually and consumes about 350,000 kWh of electricity.
