FBI Launches Kinetic Cyber Range for Cyberattack Simulation Training
The FBI inaugurated the Kinetic Cyber Range in Alabama in February 2025, a simulated city designed for cybersecurity training. This facility aims to prepare law enforcement and investigators for real-world cyberattacks, addressing the rising threat of cybercrime, which caused $20.9 billion in losses in the U.S. in 2025.

The Kinetic Cyber Range, located at the FBI campus in Huntsville, Alabama, spans over 2,000 square meters and includes various facilities such as homes, a hospital, a court, and a data center. Since its opening, over 1,400 participants, including FBI agents and personnel from other agencies, have engaged in training exercises.
The center is designed to simulate the cascading effects of ransomware attacks on critical infrastructure. It features a dedicated data center with over 200 physical servers running both Windows and Linux.
This training facility responds to the increasing threat of cybercrime, which has escalated by 26% compared to the previous year. By simulating realistic scenarios, the Kinetic Cyber Range helps personnel understand the operational consequences of cyber incidents on essential services and the public.
