FBI Opens Kinetic Cyber Range for Cyberattack Training in Huntsville, Alabama
The FBI has established the Kinetic Cyber Range, a 2,044-square-meter training facility simulating urban environments for cyberattack responses. This initiative aims to enhance practical skills of law enforcement agents, addressing the growing threat of cybercrime, particularly ransomware, which caused over $20.9 billion in losses in the U.S. in 2025.

In February 2025, the FBI inaugurated the Kinetic Cyber Range in Huntsville, Alabama, designed to simulate a fully functional small American town. This facility includes various buildings such as homes, a hospital, and a data center with over 200 servers, providing a realistic environment for training in cyberattack scenarios.
More than 1,400 participants, including federal agents and partners, have completed training focused on real-time responses to cyber threats. The center allows for immersive simulations of ransomware attacks, enhancing decision-making under pressure. The digital forensics component trains agents to analyze encrypted data, making the Kinetic Cyber Range a comprehensive resource in combating cybercrime.
