FDJ United, the French national lottery operator, manages 8 billion digital transactions annually from its data hub in Vitrolles, France. The site, operational since the creation of the Loto in 1976, employs 500 staff and 200 contractors.
To enhance operational resilience, FDJ United has integrated a third data center in partnership with Digital Realty in Marseille, which will handle 30% of transactions. The company aims to increase simultaneous user capacity from 350,000 to 1 million.
The data center's temperature has been raised from 16 to 24 degrees Celsius over ten years to improve energy efficiency. Fire safety measures include carbon particle sensors and argonite fire suppression systems.
FDJ United's backup generators can provide power autonomously for 17 days, with priority access to energy in case of widespread outages. Additionally, a secure 'aléa manager' generates game results every 15 minutes, ensuring randomness and security.
