Federal Ministry Funds InnoWaerm Project for 3D-Printed Hydrogen Reactors in Germany
The InnoWaerm project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) with 1.5 million euros, aims to develop lightweight, high-temperature-resistant hydrogen reactors from titanium aluminide using additive manufacturing. These reactors will generate hydrogen directly on board aircraft and heavy-duty vehicles.
The project is coordinated by Fraunhofer ILT in Aachen and has a duration of 24 months. Researchers will focus on validating the technology under real conditions and demonstrating its industrial-scale manufacturability. The combination of low weight, high temperature resistance, and compact design is crucial for mobile applications in aviation and agriculture.
