FERC Grants 50-Year License for Goldendale Energy Storage Project in Washington
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a 50-year operating license for the Goldendale Energy Storage Project in Washington state, developed by Rye Development and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The facility will be located on private land at a former aluminum smelter and is designed to store electricity for up to 12 hours, generating 1,200 MW of on-demand power.
The project aims to address a projected 30% increase in electricity demand in the U.S. Northwest over the next decade. During its four- to five-year construction period, it is expected to create over 3,000 jobs and generate more than $10 million annually for Klickitat County. The project will prioritize local union workers under a labor agreement with regional building trades councils.
