On July 19, Beaver Dam firefighters responded to a roof fire at Meta's AI data center construction site at 5:37 p.m. Crews observed black smoke emanating from the roof and quickly accessed the area, locating a small fire involving discarded roofing materials, which was extinguished using a 1¾-inch handline.
The fire was contained to the discarded materials, resulting in minimal damage to the building. No injuries were reported, and no construction activity was occurring at the time. The facility, valued at $1 billion and spanning 700,000 square feet, is set to open in 2027 as Meta's 30th data center globally. This incident underscores the need for effective emergency response protocols to mitigate risks at construction sites.
