Gresham House reported a fire at its 7 MW/9 MWh battery energy storage system in Nottinghamshire, confirmed to be caused by a short circuit in NMC technology. The fire, which occurred at 5:21 am on May 1, was managed swiftly by Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, with no injuries reported among site staff.
The NMC technology represents less than 4.03% of the project’s overall portfolio and has not been included in any BESS purchases by GRID since 2020. Gresham House is actively enhancing safety measures as part of its commitment to best practices, which may influence future project designs and operational protocols in the battery storage sector.
