A fire broke out at the Machhkund Hydropower Project in Odisha's Koraput district, damaging two turbines and halting power generation for several hours. The incident occurred between 11:30 am and 12:00 pm, triggered by a short circuit in a project cable.
The local Lamtaput Fire Department responded promptly to control the flames. Injuries were reported among workers, with some requiring medical attention. Due to the damage in the output yard, power generation will remain suspended for the immediate future, raising concerns about operational capacity. The economic impact includes substantial property damage estimated in lakhs of rupees.
