First Hydrogen Corp Welcomes Fast-Tracked Nuclear Project as a Step Towards Sustainable Energy in Canada

NUCLEARHYDROGEN

First Hydrogen Corp has embraced the recent announcement by Prime Minister Mark Carney regarding the Darlington new nuclear project in Ontario, a notable initiative aimed at revitalizing Canada’s energy landscape. The project, which will highlight small modular reactors (SMRs), is among the first to be fast-tracked under the federal government's new major projects office. This decision underscores Canada’s ambition to become the first G7 nation to operationalize an SMR, a significant milestone that aligns seamlessly with First Hydrogen's commitment to advancing green energy production through innovative technology.

The SMRs, designed for factory construction and small-scale deployment, promise substantial benefits, including the capacity to power approximately 300,000 homes with clean energy. In a strategic move toward optimizing the technology, First Hydrogen has partnered with Professor Muhammad Taha Manzoor from the University of Alberta. Together, they are focused on refining reactor designs and fuel materials, vital for the successful deployment of these advanced energy solutions.

As the demand for energy continues to surge, particularly with the projected 50% increase in global power consumption by data centers by 2027, First Hydrogen’s initiative is timely. Goldman Sachs estimates that meeting this demand may require up to $720 billion in grid investments by 2030. Recognizing this, First Hydrogen launched First Nuclear Corp in March 2025, a subsidiary aimed at integrating SMR-generated power with electrolysis for green hydrogen production, particularly in off-grid and industrial settings where reliable, zero-carbon energy is crucial.

Balraj Mann, Chairman and CEO of First Hydrogen, articulated the significance of SMRs within Canada’s energy infrastructure, noting their simpler, low-pressure designs and passive safety features, which eliminate the need for human intervention or external power to shut down. This aspect, coupled with their reduced fuel requirements, positions SMRs as a compelling solution for sustainable energy generation.

First Hydrogen Corp remains steadfast in its mission to develop and commercialize advanced clean energy solutions. By leveraging state-of-the-art small modular reactors for green hydrogen production, the company aims to deliver scalable and economically viable alternatives that not only meet global climate objectives but also enhance energy security for the future.
