FirstLight and Energy New England Expand Hydropower Purchase Agreement through 2040
FirstLight has expanded its power purchase agreement (PPA) with Energy New England (ENE) to supply 197 gigawatt hours per year of hydropower to 21 municipal public power entities in New England, including Westfield Gas & Electric. The expanded agreement, which extends through 2040, aims to support the energy needs of approximately 20,000 homes annually while maintaining low costs for ratepayers.
The original PPA, established in 2020, was one of the largest municipal purchases of clean energy in New England. All participating municipalities comply with Massachusetts' requirement to source 50% of their power from carbon-free resources by 2030. Power will be sourced from FirstLight's Cabot and Turners Falls hydroelectric facilities, which have a combined capacity of 68 megawatts.
