Flooding in West Virginia Linked to Data Center Construction
Severe flooding in Mason County, West Virginia, has been reported, with damage stemming from a breach at the Nscale construction site. Local officials are coordinating with Nscale to address the situation and implement corrective actions.

On May 23, significant rainfall led to flooding in the Meadowlands Estates subdivision of Mason County, allegedly due to a breach in a silt retention area at the Nscale construction site. Damage primarily affected garages and HVAC equipment, with no reported injuries.
Nscale has mobilized cleanup crews and contractors to assist homeowners and is working with state and local officials, including the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, to formulate a prevention plan. The site's stormwater controls were previously inspected and deemed compliant; however, the rainfall exceeded their design capacity. Nscale has committed to reinforcing erosion controls and preparing for future rainfall.
