Florida Senate's Regulated Industries Committee advanced two bills, SB 484 and SB 1118, aimed at regulating data centers. SB 484 prohibits non-disclosure agreements regarding facility developments and mandates tariffing rules for large power customers.
It also creates a water-permitting framework for data centers. SB 1118 offers protections for proprietary information of data center companies and restricts local officials from sharing business plans.
The bills' sponsor, Sen. Bryan Ávila, seeks to balance environmental protection with business interests. Both bills will proceed to the Senate Community Affairs Committee before a floor vote.
