Fodzoku Community Demands Housing and Jobs from VRA After Kpong Dam Resettlement Failures

HYDRO POWER

Fodzoku community leaders in Ghana's North Tongu District have expressed disappointment over unfulfilled commitments by the Volta River Authority (VRA) following the acquisition of over 3,100 acres for the Kpong Hydroelectric Dam. Despite generating nearly 150 Megawatts since its commissioning in 1982, the community has faced ongoing challenges, including inadequate housing, poor road conditions, and limited job opportunities.

Acting Chief Togbe Kwasi Misrobi III highlighted the community's need for basic services and local employment, stating that the lack of jobs forces youth to migrate. The VRA, while providing educational support, has not constructed promised infrastructure or adequately addressed community grievances.

The issues faced by Fodzoku reflect broader dissatisfaction among other communities hosting VRA projects. VRA's Principal Community Relations Officer reaffirmed the organization's commitment to addressing these concerns through proper administrative channels.
