Ford Attends Webequie Supply Road Groundbreaking for Ring of Fire Development
Ontario's Webequie Supply Road aims to enhance access to the mineral-rich Ring of Fire area, expected to open by late 2030. This project is anticipated to generate 70,000 jobs and contribute $22 million to the provincial economy, marking a significant step in economic reconciliation with First Nations communities.

The groundbreaking for the Webequie Supply Road occurred on June 25, with completion expected by November 2030. This 107-kilometre road will connect Webequie to McFaulds Lake, facilitating access to the Ring of Fire's mineral deposits.
The Ring of Fire contains nickel, chromite, and other valuable minerals, with construction of additional road sections scheduled over the next few years. Environmental assessments for the road have been approved, emphasizing community involvement.
Future mining projects will require separate assessments, taking into account Indigenous rights and environmental impacts. Wyloo Metals is positioned to develop the Eagle's Nest nickel project, contingent upon road infrastructure completion. The initiative represents a potential economic boost but has faced opposition from other First Nations concerned about development impacts.
