Ford Launches Ford Energy, Targets 20 GWh Annual Battery Production
Ford Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, aims for 20 GWh of energy storage capacity annually. This initiative responds to increasing domestic demand for energy storage solutions, particularly from utilities and large industrial clients.

Ford Energy has been established to manufacture and sell energy storage systems, targeting major utility companies and data centers. The production facility in Glendale, Kentucky, previously designated for electric vehicle battery production, will be repurposed to produce the Ford Energy DC Block, which utilizes Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) technology.
The DC Block offers a capacity of 5.45 MWh and is designed for extreme conditions. Ford's strategy follows the cancellation of its $11.4 billion partnership with SK On and aims to compete with Tesla's Megapack. The U.S. energy storage market is projected to expand significantly, especially due to growing infrastructure demands from AI developments.
