Fortum and Skavsta Logistics Explore Hydrogen and eSAF Production in Sweden
Fortum has partnered with Skavsta Logistik and Flygfrakt AB to investigate hydrogen production and eSAF manufacturing at Stockholm Skavsta Airport, aiming to boost Sweden's aviation sector in its climate transition. The initiative aligns with the EU's Sustainable Transport Investment Plan, which highlights sustainable aviation fuels as vital for competitiveness, while emphasizing the need for government support to establish clear investment regulations. Transportföretagen Flyg advocates for viewing aviation's transition as an industrial opportunity that requires political backing to advance similar projects in Sweden.

Fortum signed a declaration of intent with Skavsta Logistik and Flygfrakt AB to explore hydrogen production, eSAF manufacturing, heat recovery, and battery storage at Stockholm Skavsta Airport. This initiative aims to enhance Sweden's competitiveness in aviation's climate transition, supporting both regional development and the country's industrial strength.
The EU's Sustainable Transport Investment Plan identifies sustainable aviation fuels as critical for climate and competitiveness. The project requires active government participation in EU initiatives to establish clear investment regulations for eSAF. Transportföretagen Flyg emphasizes that aviation's transition is an industrial opportunity, not a phase-out issue, and calls for political support to realize similar SAF projects in Sweden.
