Fortum and Skavsta to Explore Hydrogen and e-SAF Development at Stockholm Skavsta Airport

HYDROGENSUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUELENERGY STORAGE

Fortum and Skavsta Logistics and Air Freight have signed a letter of intent to explore hydrogen and electro-sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) production at Stockholm Skavsta Airport. The partners will assess the feasibility of production, storage, and battery energy storage systems within a 100,000-square-meter site, currently under planning with Nykoping Municipality.

The agreement allows Fortum access for studies to inform potential investments. The project aims to establish Skavsta as a clean-energy hub, leveraging existing logistics and energy infrastructure. There is no disclosed timeline for construction or production capacity. This initiative aligns with Europe's increasing focus on hydrogen and e-SAF for aviation in response to emissions regulations.
