France Acquires Bull for Supercomputing Sovereignty
France has acquired Bull from Atos for 404 million euros, gaining control of a key player in high-performance computing. This strategic move aims to bolster France's technological capabilities and ensure independence in critical areas, particularly in nuclear simulation.

France's acquisition of Bull from Atos, valued at 404 million euros, positions the French state as the sole shareholder through APE. Bull, employing approximately 3,000 people, is essential for France's nuclear simulation program and aims to develop the largest supercomputer, Alice Recoque, by 2027.
The deal signifies a shift in ownership amid rising concerns over technological sovereignty in Europe. Bull reported revenues of 720 million euros in 2025, with a 16% year-on-year increase. The company previously created Europe's first exascale supercomputer, Jupiter, and aims to enhance European component ratios in future systems. The acquisition could impact France's competitive edge in the global tech landscape.
