France Launches Largest Agricultural Wastewater Reuse Project
Veolia has inaugurated France's largest agricultural treated wastewater reuse facility in Argelès-sur-Mer, operational since April 2026. The project supports 15 municipalities and aims to enhance water sustainability amid environmental pressures, aligning with national reuse targets.

In June 2026, the largest agricultural wastewater reuse installation in France commenced operations in Argelès-sur-Mer, developed by Veolia for the Community of Communes Albères-Côte Vermeille-Illibéris. This facility provides treated wastewater to approximately 60 local farmers over 650 hectares, facilitating irrigation for vineyards and apricot orchards.
Capable of recycling 1.3 million cubic metres annually, it meets Category A standards for reuse. This initiative aligns with France's Water Plan, which aims for 10% treated water reuse by 2030 and 1,000 projects by 2027. Current recycling rates in France are below 1%, significantly lagging behind other countries like Spain.
