Fraunhofer IIS Develops GiantEye High-Energy CT System for Nondestructive Testing of Large Objects
INDUSTRIAL IOT
The GiantEye project by Fraunhofer IIS aims to revolutionize nondestructive testing for large objects with a new high-energy computed tomography system. Unlike traditional systems, GiantEye features a gantry that allows for scanning in a horizontal orientation, minimizing mechanical stress on test objects.
Set for industrial availability in early 2027, it employs a 9 MeV linear accelerator and achieves 3D resolutions of 100 micrometers. Applications include analyzing high-voltage batteries, crash test vehicles, and additively manufactured components. The development also focuses on improving data processing and automation for efficient use of generated data.
