Fraunhofer IWES Wind Lidar Buoy Attains Stage 3+ Certification in OWA Roadmap
The Fraunhofer IWES Floating Lidar System (FLS) has achieved Stage 3+ certification under the OWA Roadmap, enhancing offshore wind site assessment accuracy. This advancement significantly mitigates uncertainty in project viability and supports bankable decisions in the offshore wind sector.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES has achieved Stage 3+ certification for its Floating Lidar System (FLS), marking it as the first to reach this level under the OWA Roadmap version 3.0. This certification, validated by Oldbaum Services Ltd., underscores the system's capability to provide accurate Turbulence Intensity (TI) measurements, critical for offshore wind site assessments.
The recent advancements in measurement techniques include a high-frequency motion compensation method, ensuring data precision without reliance on machine learning. The successful validation of TI measurements enhances confidence in offshore atmospheric data and supports improved project outcomes. This certification could influence the adoption of floating lidar technology in the industry, potentially leading to enhanced project financing and site analysis.
