FRV Developing 1.2GW Battery Energy Storage Portfolio in Spain for 2026-2027
FRV is advancing a 1.2GW/5GWh battery energy storage system portfolio in Spain, set to achieve 'shovel-ready' status between 2026 and 2027. The projects will be implemented across Extremadura, Andalusia, Catalonia, and Cantabria, with significant hybridisation of existing solar facilities. Extremadura will host the largest developments, including the San Serván and Carmonita clusters. The initiative is backed by Spain's Royal Decree 997/2025, which aims to enhance energy storage capabilities in response to power system vulnerabilities.

FRV is developing a 1.2GW/5GWh battery energy storage system portfolio in Spain, targeting 2026-2027 for 'shovel-ready' projects. The initiative focuses on hybridising existing PV plants and standalone BESS across Extremadura, Andalusia, Catalonia, and Cantabria.
Extremadura will see key projects like the San Serván 220 complex (56MW/225MWh) and the Carmonita cluster (totaling 652MW/3,492MWh). In Andalusia, 57MW/285MWh will be added to the Alcores projects, while Catalonia will feature 334MW/1,336MWh across six sites.
The Santander BESS Camarreal project in Cantabria will provide 50MW/200MWh, with construction starting in Q2 2026. The rollout is facilitated by Spain's Royal Decree 997/2025, promoting energy storage integration.
