Fugro Selected for Brazil's First Offshore Wind Geotechnical Study
Fugro will conduct a geotechnical site investigation for Petrobras’ Offshore Wind Pilot Project in Brazil. This 18MW initiative marks the first such development in South America under a formal licensing process.

Fugro has been contracted by Petrobras to conduct a geotechnical site investigation for the 18MW Offshore Wind Pilot Project located off São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro. This project is notable as it is the first offshore wind development in South America to progress through a formal environmental licensing process.
Field operations will commence in April 2026 and continue until Q3 2026, with final reports expected in 2027. The investigation will include soil sampling, in situ testing, and laboratory analysis conducted from the Rio das Ostras hub and Pinhais facility. The advancement of this project is critical as regulatory frameworks for renewable energy are being established in the region, potentially influencing future offshore wind initiatives.
