Fujifilm and Tokyo Gas Partner for Biomethane Supply in Kanagawa
Fujifilm, Tokyo Gas, and Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions have signed an agreement to supply city gas from imported biomethane to Fujifilm's Ashigara facility. This marks the first initiative of its kind for Japan's chemical sector, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and assess the feasibility of biomethane use.

Fujifilm and Tokyo Gas have established an agreement for the supply of city gas derived from imported biomethane to Fujifilm's site in Kanagawa Prefecture. The gas will be utilized partially at the Ashigara facility, with the goal of evaluating the feasibility of biomethane in Japan's chemical industry.
The initiative supports Fujifilm's target to achieve net-zero energy-related carbon emissions by 2040. In related developments, a consortium led by Tokyo Gas and Mitsubishi is conducting feasibility studies for producing synthetic methane (e-methane) in the U.S., targeting an initial production of 130,000 tons per year by 2030.
This aligns with Japan's carbon neutrality goals and leverages existing natural gas infrastructure. Additionally, Nippon Steel and ExxonMobil are exploring carbon capture and storage solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, further contributing to emission reduction efforts.
