Fukuoka Desalination Plant to Increase Output by 10,000 Tons Daily Amid Water Shortage
The Fukuoka District Waterworks Agency will boost production at the Mamizu Pia desalination plant by 10,000 tons per day starting March 13, raising total output to approximately 40,000 tons. This increase aims to address declining reservoir levels in the Chikugo River system, which have dropped to 11.9%, resulting in a 55% intake restriction. The additional water will support the daily needs of around 50,000 residents.

Starting March 13, the Fukuoka District Waterworks Agency will increase the output of the Mamizu Pia seawater desalination plant in Fukuoka City by 10,000 tons per day, bringing total production to about 40,000 tons daily. This upgrade is necessary due to declining reservoir levels in six dams of the Chikugo River system, which have fallen to 11.9% capacity, leading to a 55% intake restriction. The extra desalinated water will meet the needs of approximately 50,000 residents and aims to conserve the remaining dam reserves.
