Gabon Establishes National Data Center for Timber Traceability
Gabon’s government is launching a national data center to enhance timber traceability from forest to export. Water and Forests Minister Maurice Ntossui Allogo announced that the system will digitize and centralize forestry data, enabling tracking of trees from management to processing and export. This initiative aims to address inconsistencies in timber sector data, with significant discrepancies noted in log volumes and revenue. The digital center is expected to improve transparency, data reliability, and state control over forest resources.

Gabon is establishing a national data center for timber traceability, announced by Water and Forests Minister Maurice Ntossui Allogo. The system will digitize and centralize forestry data, allowing for the tracking of individual trees from forest management, including GPS tagging before felling, through to export.
This initiative responds to inconsistencies in sector data, such as a reported 1.5 million cubic meters of logs generating 42 billion CFA francs in 2024 versus over 3 million cubic meters generating only 31 billion CFA francs in 2025. The digital center aims to enhance transparency, improve data reliability, reduce fraud risks, and strengthen state control over forest resources.
