Gail India to Establish 300-Tonne Bio CNG Plant in Bengaluru

NEWS

In a significant development for renewable energy in Karnataka, Gail India, the state-run natural gas company, has announced plans to establish a 300-tonne bio CNG plant on an 18-acre site in Haralakunte village, located in Bengaluru's southern region. The plant is poised for future expansion, with the potential to increase its production capacity to 500 tonnes per day. The process will begin with a thorough land survey conducted by the state's revenue department in conjunction with Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd, which will then facilitate the transfer of the land to Gail India, complete with detailed maps.

This initiative follows the successful inauguration of Gail's first compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Ranchi last October, which is designed to process 150 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, yielding approximately 5,000 kg of bio CNG. In a further commitment to expanding its footprint in sustainable energy, Gail India has also formed a joint venture with Trualt Bioenergy, known as Leafinti Bioenergy Ltd, to establish ten additional CBG plants. Together, these efforts underscore a growing emphasis on renewable energy solutions and sustainable waste management practices across the region.
