Geelong Council Funds Project to Recycle Carpet Waste for 3D Printing

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & RECYCLING

The City of Greater Geelong has approved $25,000 in funding for a project led by Deakin University, the Advanced Fibre Cluster, and flooring company Godfrey Hirst. The project will explore recycling carpet manufacturing waste into 3D printing feeder stock.

One potential application is the production of 3D printed bollards for the Baywalk and Barwon Heads redevelopment. The initiative aligns with waste reduction and circular economy goals, aiming to keep valuable materials in use longer while providing innovative community infrastructure.
