Geophysics Expert Urges Site Studies for Resource Management in Nigeria
Professor Magnus Uzoma Igboekwe emphasizes the need for thorough geophysical studies before drilling for groundwater and constructing infrastructure in Nigeria. His remarks during MOUAU's 74th inaugural lecture highlight the critical role of geophysics in national development and environmental sustainability.

Professor Magnus Uzoma Igboekwe from MOUAU advocates for comprehensive geophysical studies to be conducted prior to borehole drilling and construction projects to ensure safe groundwater and infrastructure development in Nigeria. He identified the importance of geophysics in economic performance and sustainable resource management, citing the need for responsible practices like landfill management to prevent water contamination.
Igboekwe recommended regional groundwater projects to provide access to potable water for economically disadvantaged populations. He also emphasized the potential of geothermal energy at Okorroba and the importance of carbon sequestration in the Niger Delta. The Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, VC Akanwa, reiterated the necessity of scientific evidence and technological competence in utilizing Nigeria's natural resources effectively.
