George Forrest Invests $2.8 Billion in Kinsuka Hydropower Project in DRC
Groupe Forrest, led by George Forrest, is investing $2.8 billion in the Kinsuka hydropower project on the Congo River, aiming to alleviate power shortages in Kinshasa. The project, developed by Kinsuka Power, will have a capacity of 900 megawatts and is expected to serve mining companies and the capital city. Construction is set to begin on Kwidi Island, with a timeline of five years for completion.

Groupe Forrest is advancing a $2.8 billion hydropower project, Kinsuka, located on the Congo River west of Kinshasa, with a capacity of 900 megawatts. The joint venture Kinsuka Power, involving Great Lake Energy and Congo Energy, aims to address power shortages in Kinshasa and support industrial demand.
The project will feature 12 turbines with an annual output estimated at 7,450 gigawatt hours. Approximately 600 megawatts will be allocated to mining companies, while 300 megawatts will supply Kinshasa.
The timeline for completion is around five years, as stated in government briefings. The project seeks to enhance energy security and reliability for households and public services.
