Georgetown Election to Decide Future of Water Management on May 2
Georgetown's early voting for a pivotal May 2 election has commenced, with residents deciding on a sale of part of the water system to a private provider. This move aims to alleviate financial burdens and streamline water service management for both the city and neighboring areas.

Early voting is underway for Georgetown's election on May 2, which will determine whether a portion of the city's water system will be sold to National Utility Infrastructure (NUI). Approximately 40% of Georgetown's water utility customers reside outside the city, and the city aims to reduce its obligations to provide water to rapidly developing areas such as Florence, Liberty Hill, and Salado.
The proposed sale could save the city hundreds of millions in future costs and stabilize rates for Georgetown residents. If approved, the Texas Public Utility Commission will also need to authorize the sale, which may take up to two years. Voters can check their eligibility through the city's interactive map.
