Georgia Power Begins Construction on 260MW Battery Storage System in Wadley
Georgia Power has initiated the construction of a 260MW battery energy storage system in Wadley, Georgia. This facility aims to enhance grid reliability and accommodate the rising renewable energy output in the region.

Construction has started on a 260MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Jefferson County, Georgia, by Georgia Power. This project, approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission, will support grid reliability and leverage existing solar generation.
The facility will provide stored electricity for four hours, aiding in peak demand management. Burns & McDonnell is responsible for the construction, set for completion in 2027. Additionally, Georgia Power plans two more solar installations with integrated battery systems, totaling 350MW, to meet increasing renewable energy demands. These initiatives align with Georgia's 2025 Integrated Resource Plan, which emphasizes expanding capacity through strategic projects.
