German Aluminium Industry Faces Production Decline, Challenges Persist
The German aluminium sector anticipates no production growth by 2026, with 57% of firms doubtful of recovery. A significant 85% report shortages in aluminium scrap, further straining output capabilities.

The German aluminium industry reported a production decrease, with 684,564 metric tons of recycled aluminium produced in Q1 2026, down 3% from the previous year. A majority of firms (57%) do not foresee improvements by the end of 2026, with 66% rating their order situation as poor.
Notably, while refiners increased production by 2% to 128,639 metric tons, remelters saw a 4% decline, totaling 555,925 metric tons, indicating weak sector performance. The production of semi-finished products fell by 1%, with specific declines in rolled and extruded products.
Companies are implementing cost-cutting measures and adjusting capacities.
