The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has successfully operated a hydrogen gas turbine for 303 seconds without a mechanical compressor, surpassing a previous NASA record of 250 seconds. This innovation eliminates the parasitic load typically incurred by compressors, which consume about half of a conventional turbine's output.
The turbine's design utilizes pressure-gain combustion through detonation waves, allowing for stable energy transfer.
