Germany Advances Mobile Quantum-Secure Communication with Integrated Optical-Wireless System
The QuINSiDa consortium has successfully demonstrated a mobile quantum-secure communication system integrating Li-Fi and quantum key distribution (QKD). This innovation allows for quantum-secure key delivery over free-space optical links, enhancing flexibility for critical infrastructure applications.

QuINSiDa has developed a laboratory prototype integrating Li-Fi with Continuous and Discrete-Variable QKD, enabling quantum-secure communication without fiber or radio reliance. The system supports civil infrastructure applications, including maritime and aviation, by facilitating secure data exchange in environments where radio communication is restricted.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS contributed Li-Fi components, enhancing the system's capabilities. Key management, encryption, and monitoring are incorporated into the design, ensuring operational readiness. This advancement positions Germany to implement mobile quantum-secure solutions in real-world scenarios, significantly benefiting critical infrastructure security.
