Germany Allocates €350M for E-SAF Project at PCK Schwedt Refinery
Germany has allocated €350 million ($412.5 million) in public funding to support a green hydrogen-based e-SAF project at the PCK Schwedt refinery. This initiative aims to enhance domestic aviation fuel production amid geopolitical challenges and aims to stabilize a critical energy supply site.
Germany has approved €350 million ($412.5 million) in state support for a green hydrogen-based e-SAF project at the PCK Schwedt refinery, which is expected to produce 30,000 tonnes of e-SAF and 7,000 tonnes of e-naphtha annually. The project, which has shifted from its original location near Berlin, will utilize renewable hydrogen and captured CO₂ from a local mill, with total project costs estimated at €500 million ($589.3 million).
Funding is jointly provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (€245 million) and the state of Brandenburg (€105 million). The final investment decision is anticipated by the end of 2027, with production slated to begin in 2030. This initiative is part of Germany's strategy to transition the PCK refinery into a hub for sustainable fuels while addressing job security and energy supply stability.
