Germany's federal government aims to double data center capacity by 2030, as detailed in a new strategy set for cabinet approval. Microsoft is investing €3.2 billion to construct a data center in Bergheim, with two more planned in the region.
The strategy outlines 28 measures for rapid implementation, focusing on streamlining planning and tax incentives. Energy supply issues persist, with data centers expected to consume 21.3 billion kilowatt-hours by 2025.
The performance of German data centers grew to 2980 megawatts last year, with projections reaching 5040 megawatts by 2030. However, high energy costs in Germany remain a disadvantage compared to the US.
