Germany's Wind Power Demand Exceeds Supply Amid Low Solar Auction Participation
Germany's onshore wind auction was oversubscribed by more than double, indicating a strong market demand. Conversely, the rooftop solar auction fell short of volume, highlighting challenges in that sector.

Germany's recent onshore wind tender saw bids for nearly 7,900 MW, significantly exceeding the 3,450 MW available, resulting in a competition that drove prices down to an average of 5.54 ct/kWh. In contrast, the rooftop solar auction received bids totaling only 177 MW, falling short of the 283 MW offered, with all bids accepted at an average price of 9.56 ct/kWh. This disparity reflects a robust push towards renewable energy in Germany, yet ongoing political debates regarding financial responsibilities for grid congestion risks could impact future developments.
