Ghana's Government to Construct 6km Power Line in Bia West and Procure 200MW Battery Storage
The Ghanaian government plans to build a six-kilometre power line in Bia West to improve electricity supply, addressing persistent outages caused by a long existing feeder line. The new line will connect Bia West to a more reliable power source, and a contract has been awarded to Emessar Engineering Works. Additionally, the government aims to procure 200MW of battery storage to bolster nighttime electricity supply as part of a wider green energy strategy.

The Ghanaian government, led by Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor, will construct a six-kilometre power line to enhance electricity supply in Bia West, addressing chronic outages linked to the current 80-kilometre feeder line. The project, which includes diverting a section of the Benkyema feeder line, aims to minimize vegetation-related outages.
A contract was awarded to Emessar Engineering Works on January 19, 2026. Furthermore, the government plans to procure 200MW of battery energy storage to support nighttime electricity demand, part of a broader strategy to increase renewable energy capacity and improve energy access across the country.
