GIFT City to Expand District Cooling Capacity to 30,000 TR by 2030 with New SEZ Plant
GIFT City is set to triple its district cooling capacity to 30,000 TR by 2030, driven by a new plant in the SEZ. This expansion highlights a significant shift towards centralized cooling systems in urban developments, potentially setting a precedent for future projects in India.

Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) plans to expand its district cooling system to 30,000 refrigeration tonnes (TR) by 2030. The project includes a new 10,000 TR plant in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and upgrades to the current 10,000 TR system.
The expansion will cater to approximately 55 buildings by 2028, increasing from the current 27 connected buildings. The new plant, designed by Blue Star Ltd, involves a ₹78.49 crore investment and aims to enhance efficiency, improving overall plant performance from 0.9 kW/TR to 0.85 kW/TR. The integration of thermal energy storage will optimize system performance during peak demand, with projected savings of 30% in energy use compared to conventional systems.
